Call for Proposals

Call for Preliminary Research Proposals – CIMEGS 2025–2026

The Canadian Institute for Middle East and Gulf Studies (CIMEGS) is pleased to announce a call for preliminary research proposals from its members. This initiative aims to support the development and submission of high-quality research projects to leading international funding bodies, including the International Development Research Centre (IDRC).

Selected proposals will be refined by the Institute’s scientific committee and officially submitted under the name of CIMEGS as the principal applicant. The Institute will manage all financial and administrative aspects of the grant and may assign additional researchers to support project development and implementation as needed.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Applicants must be registered members of CIMEGS.
  • Each application must include an up-to-date academic CV.
  • Submissions must be provided in a single Word document (.docx).
  • Other formats will not be accepted.

Proposal Structure (Required Sections)

  1. Project Title (Max. 20 words)
  2. Project Summary (Max. 300 words)
    • Outline the research problem, objectives, regional focus, and potential impact.
  3. Thematic Area (choose one):
    • Sustainable Energy Transition (priority theme)
    • Climate Change and Environmental Policy
    • Urban Planning and Smart Cities
    • Economic Development
    • Technology and Innovation
    • Identity and Culture
  4. Research Team (Max. 150 words)
  5. Relevant Experience (Max. 100 words)
  6. Curriculum Vitae – attach within the same document as an annex
  7. Language: English only

Important Notes

  • CIMEGS will act as the lead applicant and fiscal agent for selected proposals submitted to international funding bodies.
  • The Institute reserves the right to restructure proposals, appoint co-investigators, or merge complementary submissions.
  • Researchers from North Africa are encouraged to apply, as long as they are members of CIMEGS.
  • Priority will be given to projects aligned with the theme “Sustainable Energy Transition in North Africa.”
